And why the heck should you listen to me?
Personally, in the business world, I’ve conducted hundreds of interviews. I’ve seen stellar candidates on paper walk into a room and totally blow it. I’ve seen less-than-impressive resumes walk into a room with so much confidence and charisma, they had the CTO wanting to hire them on the spot.
I’ve been on the “interviewee” side as well. In fact, every job interview I've ever had has had one of two outcomes: I either turned it down on my own accord because it wasn't a good fit, or I was offered the job. I've had 2 unsuccessful interviews in my life, where I was not offered the job. But I learned from them. AND they were in the beginning of my career.
Towards the end of my career, not only was I nailing those interviews, but also instead of doing proactive application, I was reactively responding to recruiting inquiries and headhunters based off my skillset, successes and online presence. Which is a great place to be!
